We carry a variety of furnace humidifiers for you to choose from for your home in Edmonton, Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Leduc, Nisku, Stony Plain and Fort Saskatchewan.

Furnace humidifiers (also called whole-house humidifiers, central humidifiers or HVAC humidifiers) increase indoor humidity levels by dispensing moisture into dry air.

Humidified air can help alleviate skin and respiratory problems. It can also make your home feel warmer, which may lower your heating costs.

The three main types of whole-house humidifiers are steam, flow-thru and drum.

Steam Humidifiers

With steam humidifiers, water is heated in a reservoir. As the water is heated, it converts to steam and the steam is then pumped through your ductwork.

A major advantage of steam humidifiers is that your furnace doesn’t have to be on a heat cycle for them to operate.

Generally, steam humidifiers require less maintenance, although they do need to be cleaned seasonally.

Flow-Thru Humidifiers

With flow-thru humidifiers, warm air from your furnace moves through the evaporator pad while water from your water supply moistens the pad. This forces the warm air to absorb moisture to create humidified air.

This humidified air is then distributed throughout your home via your ductwork.

These units generally need to be cleaned once per year or according to manufacturer instructions. The evaporator may also need to be replaced annually.

Drum Humidifiers

Drum humidifiers are also available, but we don’t usually recommend them. They’re prone to mineral, mold and bacterial buildup due to their design. They use a rotating evaporator pad that spins in a water pan. This water can quickly become a breeding ground for mold and bacteria.

While drum humidifiers may be cheaper than other models, this price difference doesn’t make up for the monthly cleaning requirements or the danger of distributing dangerous particles into your home.

If you currently have a drum humidifier in your home, talk to us about upgrading to a safer and healthier model.
